Around Fort Worth

Cathy is standing in front of  Woman Addressing the Public: Project for a Monument by Joan MirĂ³,1981, bronze which is outside the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, TX.  We went there and viewed an exhibition of  clay figures from the great Baroque sculptor Bernini.  But no pictures were allowed in the exhibit and since I can't run very well anymore.....
The Fort Worth Police & Fire Fighter Memorial was set in a large, serene park.  Memorials go back to the turn of the century.

A single horse, without a rider, and with boots reversed in the stirrups symbolizes a fallen leader.

Art Deco Architecture Around Ft Worth, Tx

I love Art Deco buildings.  A portion of this building you can live in.  It's known as the Lofts.
Three different company's own it.  The center had a huge ballroom but it was locked and couldn't get in.
Here is the entrance of the Lofts.
 Nice decorations.
Once through the doors is the lobby elevators.  Wow!
Not to mention the ceilings.  What a treat is was to see it.  Check out the ceiling.  Magnificent.

Main Post Office

The Fort Worth main post office was built in 1931
The interior of the post office has these clusters of Doric columns.
As you walk up the stairs from outside you are greeted with this view.
The decoration above the windows were metal.
Here is a view down the main hall of the post office.  Lots and lots of PO Boxes.
There were a couple of these tables you can use to fill out your envelopes.

Texas Long Horns

You know you're in Texas when you run into these guys.  The long horns allows them to ward off predators in the arid areas they naturally live in.
I had to take a picture of this cool looking home in rural Ft Worth, TX.

Sea Perch

The end of a great hosting experience at Sea Perch RV Resort on the Oregon Coast.
Next up.... Texas

Saturday, February 9, 2013

All good things come to an end.  We have left the Oregon coast and the Sea Perch RV Resort for
Texas.  Here during a light rain is us at a truck stop.  We stay at these stops all the time.  Check out the way the trucker has parked on our left.
Cathy and I are holding tsunami debris that has come ashore from Japan.  She is smiling as hers is bigger than mine.  I don't understand why she thinks that's so funny?
Here we are with our friends Barb and Tony.  It's our going-away dinner.  Barb and Tony are the live-in general managers of the Sea Perch RV Resort in Yachats, Oregon.  Really fun people.  We miss them already.  If you ever get a chance to travel Hwy 101 in Oregon PLEASE stop and say hi for us.

Crabbing for Dungeness

Went crabbin with my friend and rv resort general manager off this pier close to Florence, Or
Here is the crab trap being prepared.  There is a chicken leg-n-thigh AND the "secret" bait (a can of cheap tuna cat food) all speared through with a stiff piece of metal wire and woven through the traps webbing.
This trap is lowered into the bay and because it lays flat the crabs just crawl over to the bait.  As you pull up the trap the larger outer ring comes up first so the crabs stay towards the lower center.
Then in about 15 minutes you haul up on your tether to retrieve your catch.  As you can see from the railing top this is a favorite place for crabbers to go.  Now I've got to tell you that if you don't attach your bait through the traps webbing it will float away when you are lowering your trap into the water.  Oops.
Here is another type of crab trap.  Our next door neighbor had to throw all these back as they were too small.
Here is one of my hauls.  You can see the chicken leg-n-thigh in the center with some crab surrounding it.
At the end of the day you come home to a crab boil.  Good Eatin!
Terrific sunset.  The perfect end to a perfect day.  Good Livin!
