At the beginning of the uphill climb from Orofino to Dent Acres Campground is this very pretty view of Orofino and the Clearwater River.

 I found this baby Bull snake trying to warm up on the asphalt street in the campground not far from our site.  Not a good place for him.  After pictures I took him back into the forest.

 We took a trip over to the Group Camp to check it out.  It's about 2 miles from Dent and is available only on a reservation basis.  This great place to sit overlooks the Dworshak lake.  Very peace full and quite.

 We had a group of Boy Scouts start a canoeing trip from our dock.  The canoe in the middle is the scout master and he is yelling for the front running group to wait for them.  They didn't.

 Here is a really cool train trestle that supported the active logging industry of the day.  I asked if it is still in use and was told that is should.

 Dworshak Dam and Reservoir is 54 miles long with 184 miles of forested shoreline.  There is 19,800 surface acres of reservoir, 29,600 acres of land with 3,500,00 acre-feet of water storage.  Approximately 3 million megawatt hours are produced annually by 3 generators.  It is the highest straight axis concrete dam in North America.  717 feet high and 3/4 of a mile long.  And it leaks!

 Saw our first snake.  We're guessing it was 4' long.  We came across it close to where we dump leaves and pine needles.  Not a rattle snake.  It took off when we tried to get a closer look

 Cathy, helping to clear some road debris when investigating this road for a report of a pile of animal bones (never found).  We saw the snake on the way back.

 At two of the main streets in Orofino it's best to take a flag to walk across the street.  Apparently there has been some close calls in the past.  This cheap but effective idea was instituted by the police chief here.

Here is Cathy demonstrating the "proper" use of the flag.  That's the US Post office across the street.  After we took this picture we noticed that we had also stopped all traffic on Michigan Ave.
