FERNLEY, NEVADA 2014

Desert Tortoise by Pan Pantoja and students of Fernley.  Sponsored by Our Town Art Works and the National Endowment for the Arts.

 Bottlecap Gazebo

Made of 75,000 bottlecaps individually hammered flat.  Here is a leaf with Heineken bottle caps.

I'm in training at an Amazon distribution center in Fernley.  I'm in the vest on the left.  The last time I saw the back of my head I still had some "pepper".  I must be getting older.

WOW!  What a beautiful sunset at Fernley RV Park.

I saw this at a rest stop in Nevada.  Another wow but for a different reason.

A Stop in Green Bay

Friday fish fry at Krolls (East) in Green Bay, Wisconsin.  Good, Good, Good.

Cathy posing by the famous Green Bay

 Its Sisters

Friends since elementary school watchin' the GB game.  At a bar of course.

This is how you give a treat to a weiner dog while driving a motorhome.

Hayward KOA, Summer 2014

Here is a small section of the kids playground at the Hayward, Wis KOA.  What Fun!

This is a giant jumping pillow.  Apparently the largest one you can buy.  Adults, you can jump on it too.

Have you ever seen a chocolate pudding slip-n-slide?

We came across the giant potato in downtown Hayward, Wis.  It's even chained down.

Giant ugly heavy mushroom.  What's the old saying?  Only a mother could love.

We had a little wind storm last night.

I found a baby bull snake in the leaf litter.

The answer is "Blowin in the Wind" my friend.  For a hobby I play at wood carving.

Now isn't this what you really want?

National Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame in Hayward, Wisconsin

This 40 foot tall Muskie is the featured fish sculpture here.

The view of the grounds just through the gift shop/entrance.

Boy, I had no idea there was such a thing.  lol

There are 500 vintage outboards on display.  They also have 6000 reels too but to me they all looked the same so I didn't even take a picture.

What a neat old idea.  I wonder why it never became mainstream for regular boats like it has for pedal powered pontoons?

I'm thinking a 5,000 piece jigsaw puzzle.  You?

Prom date or main-squeeze?  It is said that this geographical area is a Bigfoot habitat.

Here is a view of the grounds from the giant Muskie's mouth as you can climb up into the big fish.  Visit their website for more info...    http://www.freshwater-fishing.org/

Backus, Minnesota and Surrounding Area

This is Colonel Cobber, the giant corn cob is getting a hug from Cathy.  He is associated with a purported visit by Paul Bunyan.

Weekend car show in Pequot Lakes, MN     Who doesn't love these street rods!  Wow.

Fishing museum inside a sporting goods store in Baxter, MN.  Worth a visit if you are passing by.

The football house has a for-sale sign if you ever wanted to own a football hut that is.

Kayaking on Big Portage Lake.  I found out that with each dip of the oars I flipped water into the boat.

View of Sandy Pines Resort, Backus, MN.

I liked this fish sculpture.  It was right around the corner from our site at Sandy Pines.

Who remembers what this is?  Ahhh, the memories of youth.

The Benches of Idaho Falls

In my previous post I mentioned that you should stop and do a walk around of the falls.
Here are five reasons to get you started.

The Trip To Idaho Falls

When you drive through Flagstaff, Arizona you will be treated to this view of the San Francisco Peaks.

I took this picture of the roadway.  See those dashes in the road?  It went on for miles and was only in the #2 lane/slow lane.  I don't know what the reasoning is behind them.

 Very pretty red-rock in Utah

We found the falls of Idaho Falls.  If you go this is a must see.  Stop the car and do a walk around.

In the morning I noticed that we had received a dusting of snow over night.

Found on a truck at a fuel stop.  I wonder if they make these rims for RV's?

Camp Verde, Arizona 2014

Distant Drums RV Resort is owned by the Yavapai - Apache Nation.  We camp hosted here from Jan to April.  To pay for our full hook up site, propane, wifi and laundry we each only worked two 6 hour days a week.  The rest of the time we visited the historical sites around or just lazed.  Living-the-dream.

Sunrise at Distant Drums.  And yes the sundowns are even prettier.

Tuzigoot Pueblo ruin is a National Monument located a few miles away in Clarkdale, AZ
This ancient pueblo is attributed to the Sinagua.  It's a must see when you visit. http://www.nps.gov/tuzi/index.htm

The Verde Canyon Railway is also out of Clarkdale, AZ.  They use a FP7 locomotive.  One of only 10 remaining in North America.  And it's a 4 hour excursion.  I recommend first class (you get snacks).

 http://verdecanyonrr.com/aboard-the-train  ....check it out.

Montezuma's Castle National Monument is a 20 room structure.  It's one of the best preserved cliff dwellings you will ever see.  And was abandoned for unknown reasons 800 years ago.  There is a river located within a few hundred feet behind me when I took this picture.

There is a second cliff dwelling totally in ruins to see as well.  Look towards the roof of this cave.  There are giant bees honey combs coming down from the inside roof.

Here is a diorama of what the inside of Montezuma's Castle looks like.  The ceiling height is approx 5ft.  The Sinagua who are credited with building the castle were not a tall people.

I had a local show me this cave complex in Sedona.  It is not known about by the general public.

It was a pretty steep climb from an unmarked roadway pull off.  Here's me standing in one of the many entrances to the system.  It's about a 25 foot drop to the ground.  I got the feeling that it may host a few teenage parties now and again.  Very neat place to check out.
